Richard was born on 6-7-1954 in Marshall, Michigan.

Richard joined LivingstonBarger in 1979 when he graduated from law school. He became a partner at the firm in 1985. Concentrating his practice in the area of complex civil litigation, Richard has maintained a particular emphasis in the area of medical and hospital liability-related matters. He also maintains a significant involvement in the area of business-related litigation and pharmaceutical defense litigation. Richard has successfully handled hundreds of cases for his clients over the years, at trial, upon appeal and in pretrial resolution. Richard also practices as a mediator in and around central and northern Illinois and is frequently sought after as a neutral for a variety of civil litigation cases. His understanding of the litigation process is an invaluable aid to the resolution of frequently complex litigation. Richard authored the “Jury instructions and Special Interrogatories” chapter for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education from 1991 through 2003 and is a charter member of Leading Lawyers (Illinois) and on its Advisory Board. He is rated AV (now 5.0) by Martindale-Hubbell and, in 2008, was elected to Fellowship in the prestigious Litigation Counsel of America. Richard has been a member of the Society of Trial Lawyers since 1992.

John K. Kim Joins Firm

John K. Kim has joined Livingston Barger. Mr. Kim concentrates his practice in defending health care professionals, health care institutions, and long-term care facilities in litigated matters. He also counsels insurance companies on coverage matters and defends insureds in various liability matters. He also provides day-to-day counsel to businesses on labor and employment matters, and defends employers in administrative and litigated proceedings. Mr. Kim also represents employers and highly skilled individuals in employment-based immigration matters. He also engages in commercial litigation and enforces creditors’ rights on behalf of businesses and financial institutions.

Mr. Kim received his B.A., cum laude, from Wheaton College in 2001 and his J.D. from the American University, Washington College of Law in 2005. While in law school, Mr. Kim served as a Note and Comment Editor for the American University Journal of Gender, Social Policy, and the Law. In 2004, he was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society and the first place finishing team at the national John J. Gibbons Criminal Procedure Moot Court Competition held at Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey. He also served as a student law clerk for the Honorable Peter C. Schaumber, former chairman of the National Labor Relations Board. Upon graduation, Mr. Kim received the Mooers Trophy for excellence in trial practice.

Mr. Kim is admitted to practice in the state courts of Illinois and the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts of the Central District of Illinois. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association, where he serves as Vice-Chair of the Judicial Evaluations Committee, Outside Cook County. Mr. Kim is also active in the Peoria County and McLean County Bar Associations. He has served on the board of directors, and chaired the diversity and young lawyers committees of the Peoria County Bar Association. He also serves as a Barrister in the Abraham Lincoln Inns of Court.

Mr. Kim is a 2008 graduate of the Peoria County Leadership Program, and a 2009 graduate of the Peoria Chamber of Commerce Leadership School. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Hult Center for Health Education, ArtsPartners of Central Illinois, Inc., the Peoria Area Track & Field Club, and as chair of the Alumni Awards Committee of the University High School Alumni Association, which is his alma mater.

BLOOMINGTON - The newly redesigned Web site of the LivingstonBarger Law Firm goes live today on the World Wide Web. The web site lbbs.net aims to extend the reach of all the law firm's members by serving a broad audience of the general public. The new Web site features expanded content and new media including publications and rich profiles related to attorneys. The redesign incorporates bold colors and graphics and completely new navigational tools.
